Performance and Teaching Experience:

Sue Brotherton, TCRG2002 – Present  Director of Millennium School of Irish Dance (Georgetown, CT).

2000 – Present  Irish dance teacher on the Connecticut Dance! (Monroe, CT) faculty.

Spring, 2000  Passed the TCRG exam, the official teacher certification process of the governing commission for Irish Step Dancing. Became featured Irish dancer for “Themselves”, an educational and concert performance troupe. Featured Highland and Irish dancer for Connecticut Ballet’s “World of Dance” troupe (2000-2001, 2002-2003).

1999 – 2002  Irish dance teacher on the Wilton Dance Studio (Wilton, CT) faculty.

1998 – 2003  Irish dance teacher on the Connecticut Ballet Center (Stamford, CT) faculty.

1993 – 1999  Teacher with O’Connell Academy of Irish Dance (Stamford, CT) for all levels of dancers; choreographer of soft and hard shoe steps, sets, and figure dances. Through 1996, championship solo competitor and performer in New York, Massachusetts, and Connecticut with O’Connell Academy, and member of the Royal Scottish Dance Society of Elmhurst, New York.

1990 – 1993  Student of Coyle School (Philadelphia, PA); championship solo competitor and performer in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Delaware, and Virginia. Qualified for World Championship competition in 1992.

1988 – 1990  Student of Brian Frain, TCRG (Philadelphia, PA); adult group and championship solo competitor. Competed in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Delaware, and Virginia, and performed in Philadelphia and New Jersey.

1981 – 1984  Member of the Middletown, CT Royal Scottish Dance Society demonstration team and soloist performing Scottish Highland dances. Student at the Griffith Academy of Irish Dance, Wethersfield, CT, and with Martin Graham, World Champion Highland Dancer, East Hartford, CT.

Irish Dance Workshops attended:

Summer 2007  week-long Swannanoa Gathering workshop in Scottish Ceilidh Dancing in Asheville, NC. Also studied Intermediate Irish Fiddle with Séamus Connolly.

Summer 2003  week-long Augusta Heritage workshop in Appalachian Flatfooting at Elkins & Davis College, WV, taught by Ira Bernstein of Asheville, NC.

Summer 2001  week-long Gaelic Roots  workshop at Boston College, taught by Michael Smith of Boston and Kathleen McLaughlin of Scotland. Sue and Colin!

Summer 2001  weekend workshop in New York, taught by Colin Dunne, former principal dancer for Riverdance.

Summer 2000  week-long Gaelic Roots workshop at Boston College, taught by Michael Maguire and Kathleen O’Shea-Maguire of England.

Summer 1999  week-long Gaelic Roots workshop at Boston College, taught by Ron Plummer of Toronto and Tony Nolan of Limerick, Ireland.
